Exempler Marketing Plan Project
The Exempler representative for this course project is well-versed in both entrepreneurial-thinking as well as design-thinking. In addition to more traditional competitive analyses and marketing mix strategies, it would be be highly beneficial if student teams could also map customer journeys and develop customer personas to better focus Exempler's marketing strategy. Though Exempler has an overall business plan and a commercially viable product (TestSecretary), we currently do not have the resources to fully develop our marketing plan in great detail across all three of our client-verticals: telecom, eCommerce, and IoT. Thus, this course project represents an opportunity for savvy and engaged marketing students to add tremendous value at this early stage of the firm. Marketing Internship (Remote)
Exempler is seeking a maximum of three marketing interns focused on the following three areas: Market Research: Intern to investigate Exempler's competitive landscape; perform market segmentation to identify the ideal target market for Exempler's monitoring-and-testing hub, TestSecretary (TS); conduct customer surveys or focus groups to gain insights into the perceptions and behaviors of TS's target customers; develop a pricing strategy; identify expansion opportunities; identify key messaging for TS. Public Relations: Intern to develop and implement a PR strategy; create collateral, including press releases, user testimonials, case studies, and customer stories. Prospecting Strategy : Intern to evaluate TS's current customer base and make recommendations for further market penetration; assess TS' current outreach process and develop and implement targeted prospecting; review your prospect messaging, make improvement recommendations, and create new outreach content.
Exempler Cannes Lions Event & Travel Planning Project
Exempler LLC (based in the Kansas City metropolitan area) is planning to enter its SaaS hub "TestSecretary" (TS) as a competitor in the 2022 and/or 2023 Cannes Lions category "C02 eCommerce Websites / Apps": https://www.canneslions.com/enter/awards/experience/creative-ecommerce-lions#/ Submissions are due in April and Cannes Lions winners are announced in Cannes, France in June. In the event that TS is selected as a competitor for a Creative eCommerce Lion, two or more Exempler representatives will attend in June 2022 and/or 2023. Principals at Exempler view the Cannes Lions as an opportunity to elevate our organization and brand, and bring it to the next level -- taking our TS hub from being the "best kept secret in eCommerce" to the "best told story in eCommerce." Exempler representatives will coach the student team(s) as they plan and prepare this effort, throughout the following five phases: Initiation, Planning, Implementation, Event and Closure. It would be beneficial if the student team(s) could also engage in various aspects of event-related business travel including booking travel and accommodations, itineraries and expense reports.

Due to recent client and partner feedback, Exempler has an interest in cloud technologies as well as analytics. Exempler has an IoT focused market research project, where students can explore IoT customer pain points in order to deliver recommendations for future action. The project includes interacting with Exempler representatives, gathering and analyzing client and prospective-client data and recommending and implementing relevant intervention activities. Exempler Supply Chain Project
Broad Project Areas Include (but are not limited to): Research most viable container-shipping client-exporters categories likely to be interested in our IoT testing-and-monitoring solution. Conduct a viability assessment regarding Exempler's idea to collaborate with a freight-forwarding company on the above concept (one of Exempler's principals has strong ties to freight-forwarder Savino Del Bene whose US Headquarters is in Avenel, NJ, very close to Rutgers' New Brunswick campus). Work with quantitative and qualitative information from Exempler's stakeholders (i.e., customers, suppliers, employees, regulators, community organizations, etc.) and supply network. Review industry reports and the latest research to help us better understand our industry position and future options. Deliver on-time, actionable recommendations. Effectively co-manage a client and/or prospective client relationship. Generate a high-quality report and presentation. Specific Projects Could Include (but are not limited to): Shipping-container testing-and-monitoring using Exempler's TestSecretary hub (tied to sensors that monitor temperature, humidity, geolocation, etc.) Risk management models (should tie to data generated via the TestSecretary hub) Forecasting supply risks (to buyers / retailers / OEMs / etc., should also tie to TestSecretary hub) Assessment of disruptive logistics practices TestSecretary as an e-commerce SaaS in a supply chain context Potential Scope of Projects: In addition to traditional supply chain elements, Exempler is interested in opportunities around the adoption and implementation of new digital technology (such as TestSecretary, our IoT testing-and-monitoring hub), regulatory change, shifting trade patterns, e-commerce, social and environmental responsibility, and the overall digital transformation of business processes. We want students to help us build a marketing strategy to grow and engage our target market. We’d like to know how we can maximize different channels and what will work best for us. Project areas of high-value include, but are not limited to: Market research - evaluate the competitive environment of our firm, and develop strategies that position a firm favorably in relation to its environment and industry; Competitive and data analysis - assessing our firm's resources and capabilities, and in particular, how these relate to achieving a sustainable competitive advantage; Brand strategy and development, and/or social media strategy; Product and pricing strategy; Workforce planning, talent development, and skills gap assessments ; Data analytics and business intelligence - analyze dynamics of competitive rivalry, including competitive action and response, first-mover advantage, co-opetition, and make appropriate recommendations for firms engaged in rivalry.
IoT Oil Pipeline Probe / Sensor Study
In this project, students will be asked to use their previous knowledge in relation to site investigation. The technical specification for an offshore site investigation in relation to recent Amplify Energy oil spill in Southern California. Project outcomes might include: Determine how data generated by high-resolution seismic techniques might be integrated into the TS platform. Determine how data generated by marine acoustics systems might be integrated into the TS platform. Determine how data generated by submersible oil-pipeline sensor probes might be integrated into the TS platform. Identify competitors to Amplify Energy underwater maritime oil pipeline operators for comparison. Identify similar tech specs that have been implemented by said competitors. Identify possible positive and negative effects of TS being implemented. Based on the data, summarize recommended changes to consider prior to implementation.

We want you to investigate our sales funnel to help us understand why prospects are falling off and what changes we should make to increase sales. You will have access to our CMO for information and we will provide all current sales collateral for review. You will also be provided high level data, but not individual account information. Focus may include, but is not limited to: Mapping our buyer's journey. Identifying problem areas where prospects disengage from the sales funnel. Developing recommendations of how we can improve our sales process. An audit of the existing sales strategy. Developing a two - year sales plan. Developing budgets and forecasts. Working with students, we want to overhaul our hiring practices and implement structures best practices. Students should be prepared to: Make recommendations for creative approaches for recruiting candidates for specific role/roles. This may include developing a specific diversity recruitment strategy or a recruiting strategy for difficult to fill or niche talent. This may also include evaluating the effectiveness of our current recruitment channels (events, job boards, LinkedIn, etc.) and make realistic recommendations for improvement. Design a comprehensive talent acquisition playbook that managers can use to execute the recruitment and selection process from start to finish. Evaluate our current candidate experience through the recruiting and selection process and make recommendations for improving the experience, including the creation of candidate resources and guides.
