Description

VESTA began as an information and reporting platform, it has since evolved into a digital, online hub for survivors. We’ve learned from the research and feedback to wrap even more options and services around survivors. Our aim is to fill the gaps for those survivors who can’t or are afraid to seek professional help. Through one point of entry, survivors can find information including financial, legal, and health services. They can connect with in person services, including counselling. With one click, they can access crisis chat and text lines. Students at our university partners, can connect with their school’s Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office, to find out what their on-campus options are. For those, that don’t know what steps they want to take, if any, they can simply create a record of their experience and save it, without taking any action. And for those who do want to connect with the police, we facilitate a trauma-informed approach and introduction to them.

Market Expansion Research

VESTA Social Innovation Technologies is a social enterprise working at the intersection of gender-based violence, technology and access to justice. We’re on a mission to eradicate rape culture by empowering survivors. In 2021, we launched VESTA Community; a trusted online hub that provides a safe digital space for survivors who want to seek support, record, or report their experience. In 2022, we launched VESTA Campus. We're currently available in Ontario, Canada, with police, community and university partner. We want to expand and we require some assistance is assessing our customer and completive landscape. We want to learn more about customer’s behaviours and expectations. We have some ideas of where we would like to go and the barriers to adoption. To consider: What partnerships could help increase our credibility in the space? What market segments should we be targeting?

Connecting to the UN SDGs

VESTA Social Innovation Technologies is a social enterprise working at the intersection of gender-based violence, technology and access to justice. VESTA is on a mission to end rape culture. We are harnessing the power of community and technology to lower the barriers to reporting, and to increasing and equalizing access to resources. Our vision is that by ensuring individuals have agency, choice and equal treatment under the law, systemic change can and will occur. We have a theory of change that hypothesizes low reporting rates in sexual violence cases is a complex and multifactorial problem. Low rating rates block effective collection of data, encourages individuals to remain silent and limits innovation, funding, and services to support survivors. We align with UN SDGs 3, 5, 11 and 16 but we require assistance to help us effectively communicate that to our stakeholders.

Participating in the Career Connect programme has been an absolute game-changer for me. I can't thank the team enough for this incredible opportunity. The experience of working on the VESTA SIT project has been a highlight of my academic journey. The team dynamics were simply exceptional. Collaborating with fellow interns, each bringing their unique expertise to the table, was both enriching and inspiring. This experience has taught me the power of effective teamwork and how diverse skill sets can come together to create something truly outstanding. One of the standout aspects of this experience was the incredible opportunity to work under the supervision of an exceptional professional, Lucrezia Spagnolo, the Founder & CEO of VESTA. Getting to know her and learning from her was an honor beyond words. Her dedication to combating gender-based violence and her practical knowledge in the field left a profound impact on me. Each week, our interactions were truly rewarding, offering insights that I will carry with me throughout my career. Working closely with Lucrezia was an experience that extended far beyond the ordinary. She provided us with a unique platform to utilize our skills and creativity, encouraging us to explore, brainstorm, and share our ideas freely. This level of freedom and trust from an employer is incredibly rare and speaks volumes about VESTA's commitment to nurturing talents. I am immensely grateful for the opportunity, and I wholeheartedly recommend the Career Connect programme to anyone seeking inspiration, empowerment, and a transformative journey.
