Overview
Learner goals and capabilities

Beginning this Fall, a McMaster University Bachelor's-level student-consulting group will:

  • work with your organization to evaluate your current business model and customer journey
  • research, prepare, and validate future growth opportunities
  • recommend a research-backed growth strategy
  • provide a balanced scorecard to support incorporation of the strategy into your business

The student-consulting group will utilize qualitative (interviews, focus groups or other ethnographic methods) and quantitative analysis and tools to propose and validate the future state. The organization will gain recommendations grounded on data for specific strategic options and considerations related to the business objectives.

Note: These students are enrolled in a McMaster/Mohawk Affiliated Certificate Program. The allows the participant to earn a McMaster degree and a specialized Mohawk College certificate concurrently.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Final project deliverables include:

· A Current State Business Model Canvas, with supporting documentation, and Customer Journey Map

· A Future State Business Model Canvas, with supporting documentation, and Customer Journey Map

· A Balanced Scorecard to Support Incorporation of the Future State Model

· A 15-minute presentation + additional 10 minutes Q&A time summarizing the findings, recommendations, implementation plan (if relevant)

The Partner Company has the opportunity to communicate whether they would like to see and engage with all Group Projects, or have the Course Instructor provide the strongest submissions.

Project Examples

Your organization will gain an outside analysis of its current state, its customer journey, and a recommended forward path that builds on your core competencies or seeks to exploit new and emerging opportunities.

Example growth strategies include, but are not limited to:

· New market identification /or current market evaluation

· New market entry

· Margin improvements through process improvements

· Analysis of current product offerings and opportunities

· Strategic plan for brand development

· Competitive landscape analysis and opportunity for differentiation

The student-consulting group will spend 240+ hours (60+ hours per member) over 15 weeks working on the project.

Additional company criteria

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Be available for a quick phone call with the instructor to initiate your relationship and confirm your scope is an appropriate fit for the course.

Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer periodic emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address students' questions.

Please ensure you are committed and able to meet online with project supervisors (faculty) & students three times during the project's duration (Sep-Dec) .
