Details

The Ontario Digital Literacy and Access Network aims to remove digital literacy and access barriers. We build the capacity of Canadian organizations in Canada by providing the tools, resources, and knowledge to build digital inclusion strategies. We want to create an awareness campaign on why digital inclusion, safety, and access is important. ODLAN works with 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

We would like to work with students to design a campaign that raises awareness and encourages changes in attitudes/behaviors. In collaboration with key contacts at our organization, students will design and carry out a campaign strategy around this topic.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with the social cause, our mission and goals.
  • Identifying groups that the digital inclusion campaign will target.
  • Identifying ideal outcomes and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Identifying potential sponsors and partners who can support our campaign.
  • Creating a promotion and marketing plan.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Assisting in the development of leaflets, posters, videos, and / or brochures.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Understanding of the social cause, our mission and goals
  • Identification of target groups
  • Identification of ideal outcomes and KPIs
  • Identification of sponsors and partners
  • Creation of a marketing plan
  • Have a good understanding on how the digital divide is impacting Canadians

Bonus steps would include:

  • Designing promotional materials for our campaign

Final deliverables should include

  • A final report.
  • A 10-minute presentation.
Mentorship

Successful candidates will receive mentorship from our executive director; they will work collaboratively with the ODLAN team and will have access to the appropriate technologies needed for the project. We will be able to provide answers to questions such as:

  • Our organization’s mission and goals
  • Our awareness campaigns
  • Input on choices, problems or anything else the students might encounter.

ODLAN is a registered non-profit organization that aims to remove digital literacy and access barriers for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members. We are a community-based, volunteer-led organization that was founded by 2SLGBTQIA+ graduate students, community leaders, and allies who have first hand experience working with 2SLGBTQIA+ community members with limited access to the knowledge and hardware needed to participate in online spaces. Our vision is to empower service providers with the resources, tools, and knowledge to build digital strategies that use an intergenerational approach to remove access barriers to digital programs and related services.
