mentorship mechanicsThis is a follow up project for students who completed our Genre Fiction Story Development 3 project. In this project, we will guide you through the process of fleshing out the story outline you created in the previous project, and developing a third draft of the manuscript.
Support for students will include:
- Weekly mentoring with a developmental editor
- Training in the use of our collaborative writing software
- Guidance in the mechanics of story-telling and plot development
Students will be involved in:
- Workshopping and developing the plot of a story from start to finish
- Taking into account the needs of popular or genre fiction in today's market
- Working within a defined and disciplined structure to plot the book
- Meeting weekly deadlines and attending weekly editor meetings remotely
- Storyboarding or plotting out the action of a story in bullet point form
- Expanding on bullet point notes to begin the process of turning a plot or an outline into a finished book
This project will take place over eight weeks, during the course of which the student will deliver the following assets:
- A fully developed and cohesive story outline
- The third draft for forty scenes
- A third draft involves turning the scenes you created previously into longer-form and more polished prose
- A final report to be presented to the employer on the state of the outline and the next steps going forward
We will provide weekly mentoring and editor feedback sessions to students via Zoom.
