This experience focuses on equipping learners with practical problem-solving skills and critical thinking abilities in the design and development of web-based database systems. Participants will gain hands-on experience in analyzing, designing, and implementing web database applications using technologies such as ASP.NET Entity and Identity Framework, and various database servers like SQLite, SQL Server, and Oracle. Learners will apply their knowledge to real-world projects, enhancing their ability to create robust software solutions and comprehensive documentation that can be completed within 3 months.

This work placement offers an introduction to real-life translation situations in the setting of a Language Service Provider (LSP). It constitutes a structured period of work-based learning which has been shown to help postgraduate students develop a wide range of generic work-related skills such as problem-solving, analytical and critical thinking, team working, communication skills, personal development skills, planning, and organizational skills, etc. In addition, students are given the opportunity to develop their professional competence as translators (and by extension as proof-readers, revisers, editors, project managers, etc.) in a working environment, benefiting from mentoring and support from experienced professionals. Students are available for up to 100 hours starting early January 2024 – May 2025. Unpaid for credit experience. Honorariums and Stipends welcome. Learners will work individually, and dedicate up to 70 hours of placement time over the course of 3 months, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students are capable of completing Project work independently, and will require direction and moderate supervision. This experience is designed for learners who are proficient in Android studio, using the Kotlin framework, and are eager to apply their skills in developing mobile applications for Android. Participants will engage in a focused 60-70 hour project, either creating a complete app or a significant module of an app. The project should involve internet connection and interaction with your database. This hands-on experience allows learners to translate their classroom knowledge into practical solutions, offering industry professionals the chance to see innovative ideas come to life in a short time frame.
