Founded in 1956, the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) is an association of nonprofit independent colleges and universities, state-based councils, and higher education affiliates that works to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence, and enhance public understanding of independent higher education’s contributions to society.
CIC is the major national organization that focuses on providing services to leaders of independent colleges and universities and state-based councils. CIC offers conferences, seminars, publications, and other programs and services that help institutions improve educational quality, administrative and financial performance, student outcomes, and institutional visibility.
CIC and Riipen have joined forces in a multi-year work-based learning initiative to benefit 25 member institutions. This collaboration will integrate work-based learning opportunities into up to 375 courses led by 125 faculty members and impacting up to 11,250 students.

This experience is designed for learners enrolled in a Small Group Communication course, where they are eager to refine their team communication skills. Participants are equipped to work collaboratively, applying their knowledge to real-world projects that require effective information gathering and organization. The learning objectives focus on enhancing communication strategies, fostering teamwork, and delivering tangible outcomes that benefit project partners. By engaging in these projects, learners can bridge the gap between theoretical understanding and practical application in a professional setting.
Empowering Family Communication During Challenging Health Transitions

This experience focuses on equipping learners with the skills to create impactful public-facing messages that emphasize the importance of effective communication within families during challenging health transitions, such as post-partum depression, breast and/or prostate cancer, invisible disability, infertility, Alzheimer's disease, and end of life transition. Learners will apply their understanding of communication strategies to develop materials that can educate and support families in maintaining strong connections and resilience. By leveraging empirical research, learners will craft messages that highlight the effects of challenging health transitions on family dynamics and offer practical communication techniques to enhance well-being.
Population Health Management

Would you like to gain fresh perspectives on global health management and innovative solutions surrounding preventative healthcare? We invite you to partner with learners from Allegheny College! Learners in this program will explore how transitions can transform patterns of health by impacting risk factors, health prevention, and health management. These transitions include lifestyle changes, demographic changes, nutritional and dietary changes, transportation changes, educational changes, and health system changes. Learners will apply the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their coursework to a real-world population health management issue or challenge.
