Project-based Industry Internship: Business and Stategy Focus
PROS 3000
This experience is designed for learners who are eager to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings through a 45-50 hour internship. Participants will develop and enhance their skills in project management, product development, budgeting and financial analysis, training and development, and customer discovery. By engaging in practical projects, learners will gain hands-on experience that prepares them for the demands of the professional world, while also contributing valuable insights and solutions to industry partners.
Natural Hazards and Risk Assessment

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from University of North Carolina to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the latter half of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students in this program/course will discuss natural disasters on Earth and their impact on humans. This will include volcanoes, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, and other catastrophic natural phenomena with emphasis on causes, effects and human adjustments. Student work will include natural hazard identification and risk assessment, risk communication, hazard mitigation and hazard prediction. Students will also be working on hazard preparedness plans as well as post-disaster response and recovery plans. Students will work in small groups of 3-5 to address a wide range of natural hazard resilience challenges - maybe even your own!
Database Design and Implementation
ITCS 3160

Bring on students from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte to be your student consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students in this program/course will explore the modeling, programming, and implementation of database systems. The course mainly focuses on relational database systems. Topics include (1) modeling: conceptual data modeling, ER diagram, relational data model, schema design, normalization, and refinement; (2) programming: relational algebra and calculus, SQL, constraints, triggers, views; (3) implementation: data storage, indexing, query execution, query optimization, and transaction management.
Addressing Climate Change Through Innovative Thinking

Addressing Climate Change Through Innovative Thinking is an interdisciplinary course conducted in the context of authentic and real-world challenges. Students will engage in conversations centered on the many variables that impact our ability to take action on climate change including public perception and communication challenges, economics, impacts of the media, politics, ethics and environmental equity concerns, and education. Throughout the semester, students will identify pressing challenges and employ innovative thinking and a solutions-focused approach to taking action on issues related to climate change and sustainability. A critical part of this class experience is to connect students with organizations working in this space. Because this is an interdisciplinary course situated in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the students represent a diverse range of interests and perspectives. As such, they bring a wide range of skills and talents to our partner organizations.
