Overview
Learner goals and capabilities

In this activity, a large class of 1500 students will tackle the issue of distracted driving, and develop creative and effective Public Service Announcements to raise awareness of the issue.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

A Public Service announcement in the format of an infographic, a one-page advertisement, a radio spot, or a video clip.

Project Examples

Is distracted driving an issue that matters to you or your client base? Students will learn about the distracted driving issue in a psychology context, with a focus on the scientific method, the brain, perception, sensation, memory and consciousness. They'll use their in-class learning, their own experience, and their creativity to develop an effective Public Service Announcement against distracted driving.

Organizations this might apply to could include:

  • The Toronto Police Service
  • Government agencies
  • Car rental agencies
  • Insurance companies
  • Taxi companies
  • Cell phone providers
  • Non profit organizations with a focus on road safety

As a partnering organization, you'll be asked to contribute to the problem formulation and the scope of the students' project. What would be the most impactful format for the PSA for your organization? Who are your stakeholders? All students in the class will complete the project and peer review each others work. Only the top submissions will be passed on to the client for their feedback.
