Learner goals and capabilities

As a result of changing consumer expectations, organizations are being drawn into supporting or not supporting movements for political, environmental and social change based on the perception of the organization’s brand with consumers. Given the reputational risk involved with being on the “wrong side” of a movement or issue for social change, organizations are increasingly in need of understanding the foundations, theories, and stages of social, environmental and political movements. This project will involve 8-10 students registered in a political studies course dealing with the international economic system, global economic development, international relations issues such as population growth, environmental problems, disparities of wealth and resources, civic activism, the struggle for and against globalization, and advocacy.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Depending on the project, students would submit a 10-page report outlining theories of social, environmental and political movements for change, and strategies for organizations to be an “ally” for those movements.

Students could also select only one (1) movement devoted to social, environmental or political change and prepare a presentation for the organization dealing with this movement to use online or in person.

Students could also be a part of the virtual internships and work on multiple projects for an organization, preferably not-for-profit.
