Management Information Systems is an introductory course that examines computer-based information systems and their importance in the management of organizations. The course covers the design, development, application and management of information resources and the underlying technological infrastructure.

Topics include: role of information systems in business; fundamentals of information technology - hardware, software, communication and computer networks, databases and enterprise systems; ethical issues in the information age, as well as issues of globalization, social impact, privacy, and security.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

Project Outcomes include but are not limited to:

  1. A written report at a maximum of 5 pages (final report should include (1) an executive summary (2) A quick review of industry/strategic analysis (3) discussion of goals, mission and proposed strategies (4) a thorough discussion of proposed technologies based on research and how that links into the business strategies (5) an implementation plan
  2. 15-20-minute group presentation, including 2-5 minute video and a 2-5 min QA period (depending on class size).
  3. There should be Excel spreadsheets or Access databases to justify evaluations, recommendations.
  4. Powerpoint will be submitted as well.

Examples could include, but are not limited to:
