Reitzel Insulation is able to offer a virtual internship opportunity to as many computer science students or teams that are needed to complete the project.

About the project

After 40 years of business in Waterloo, Ontario, we would like to transfer our admin processes from paper to digital. Our goal is to be more organized and efficient online with a system that is very easy to use. (Our managers currently favour physical over digital ways)

The admin process includes: scheduling quotes, turning the successful quotes into work orders, scheduling insulation jobs, giving employees the work orders to do the job, pictures are taken on site, adjusting the work order after the job is complete, uploading pictures to the server/google photos, invoicing using Quickbooks and any customer communication (emails) needed along the way. We've looked at many platforms for this role and the closest fit we have found is Jobber EXCEPT if we ever cancel with them, we have to export our files individually and we would rather keep our information in house if possible. As well, as JobPro EXCEPT the monthly fee exceeds our budget. Feel free to look to these platforms for inspiration.

We are really looking to you for some guidance on our best route. We think that a web app or portal on our website will be needed to take care of our in-office needs. We also think a mobile app would be beneficial for our employees to view their daily schedule, quotes (for sales reps), work orders (for installers) and submit photos from the job site. We are open to splitting this project into 2 (start with the web app for this project) but we thought it was important to explain our overall vision so that the platform will work properly together as a whole.

  • Website/Software Development - Conducting a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable for our website or web app; creating a design proposal including mock-ups; building a fully-functioning website for our organization.
  • Application Development - Creating a fully-functioning mobile application.

Our goal at the end of this experience is: To have an internal system that is easy to use and efficient for our office managers.
