Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

With the aging population, the demands on health-care workers in long-term care facilities is ever increasing. Ora-3D is a medical device company developing accessible oral health care tools towards the elderly population. As part of our journey in three year operations, we have developed a three-dimensional brushing solution in the process to increase autonomy and empower nursing labor. As part of our market research, we are looking for a group of students who can help us collect quantitative and qualitative data on the realities of oral hygiene practises within care staff.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Deliverables

Students will write a 16- to 18-page report that includes four sections:

  1. A detailed background, with a literature review, on issues identified
  2. An outline of the project, including information on what students did and how
  3. An analysis and synthesis of the data collected
  4. A summary with recommendations

Ideally, I would like the students to speak to a data set of at least 60-100 nursing care staff. In response,

  • Creating survey with families of residents in Care Homes to develop quantitative insights on the value place on oral care, their relationship with health care workers and price point to invest.
  • Conducting interviews and focus groups with health-care workers to determine the biggest challenges they regularly face in relation to working conditions around oral care practises.
  • Conducting a literature review on identified issues on oral care.
  • Assessing any mental health and wellness issues raised by health-care workers to determine whether these issues may have an impact on the quality of client care - specificially to ability or inability to provide oral care.
  • Developing recommendations for policies to improve working conditions that support continuity of oral care.
How will you support learners in completing the project?

Ora-3D Health Inc. is creating assistive dental care devices for adults with special needs. We’ve developed our first autonomous brushing solution that functions with a simple bite and glide motion. Its unique structure encapsulates the teeth accessing six times more surface area and simulates dentist recommended brushing technique – allowing a deeper and more effective clean with minimal manual dexterity. Our product is designed to support adults with special needs ranging from arthritis, multiple sclerosis and those with limited mobility. Especially in nursing homes, where frontline workers are strained by labor from resistance to oral care, Ora-3D's assistive brushing induces autonomy, saves time and improves quality of life for both the frontline staff and the residents.
