The Muslim Action Group is establishing a coalition of organizations and professionals mobilized towards a cohesive strategy to advocate for social justice and address islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism in Canada. This project’s goal is to create graphic designs, manage various social media platforms, and contribute towards creating brand recognition for the organization’s social media presence. Students will be able to express their creativity while simultaneously mobilizing for the cause. 



Deliverables

Project Scope and Expectations:

This will provide opportunities to learn about social media and marketing, stakeholder management, community engagement, and communications. Interns will likely be responsible for any combination of the following duties: 

  • Manage social media accounts (Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and support content creation, including creating compelling content for press releases, social media posts, blog articles, and multimedia materials.
  • Create visually appealing graphics for various social platforms including Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp and websites. 
  • Identify key stakeholders and potential allies in the sector and update the stakeholder tracker.
  • Create a standard and customizable branding kit for company products (for e.g.,infographic, flyer, announcement).
  • Develop design concepts, graphics, and layouts based on project briefs and brand guidelines.
  • Update the WhatsApp community broadcast groups with 3 - 5 approved daily posts.
  • Interact with the community by answering questions through the company’s social platforms, including email.
  • Update the website’s calendar with 2 - 3 events / initiatives weekly and with other content submitted by the team leads.
  • Create content for and send out periodic newsletters to volunteers and the community.
  • Collaborate to create infographics and multimedia content with the education team.
  • Support the team with graphic design requests, creating 2 - 4 designs (flyers, posters, banners, decks, etc.) weekly.
  • Identify options for ad space purchases and help create ads.
  • Assist in creating and implementing plans to increase followers on the organization’s social media platforms.
  • Create a simple tracking framework, including metrics, for measuring outreach success.
  • Pitch stories and engage with journalists to secure media coverage for the project.
  • Enhance video and audio quality using color correction, filters, and sound editing techniques.
  • Strategically plan sharing various types of content, such as text-based tweets, images, videos, polls, or links to articles.
  • Manage and curate the content calendar, including planning, creating, and scheduling posts that reflect the organization's voice.
  • Stay up-to-date with social media trends, features, and best practices, incorporating new techniques to enhance performance.


Mentorship

We will provide interns with 5 hours of mentorship per team. Throughout mentorship, interns may highlight skills for professional development during their internship, and our team will work to provide interns with appropriate options. Interns may seek career advice, job shadowing and networking opportunities at their request. Meetings structured around each intern’s outlined goals will occur on a weekly basis and will continue throughout the duration of the internship. Students will also be provided with a dedicated supervisor for the entirety of their internship.
