Project scope
What is the main goal for this project?

The Global Student Government (GSG) was created in 2022 by a coalition of student governments collectively representing millions of students across all inhabited continents. The GSG seeks to represent students in international education policymaking and discourse, while providing services to support student governments, other extracurricular groups, and individual students.

Problem students will be solving: As far-reaching as the GSG is, there are still many student governments at campus and national levels around the world that do not have a voice at the international level and need to be contacted. We need to research these organizations and their needs, and establish contact with them so they can participate.

Outcome students are expected to achieve: The goal of this project is to 1) create a comprehensive database of student governments and their contact information, and 2) contact these student governments to establish strategic partnerships to integrate them into the GSG's network.

What tasks will learners need to complete to achieve the project goal?

Students will engage in two main activities.

1. Research. Students will search for student governments outside of the GSG's sphere of influence, compile their contact information in a global database, and develop an understanding of these organizations' main activities and challenges to contribute to the formation of GSG proposals to collaborate with them.

2. Outreach. Students will contact student governments in the database to invite them to partner with the GSG. Students will participate in meetings and negotiations with these potential partners and will assist in establishing partnership agreements.

How will you support learners in completing the project?

1. Software. Students will receive a GSG email account that is equipped with Google for Nonprofits software, including access to a shared drive for data storage and online meeting functionalities, among other things. Students will gain access to an online project management platform where they can communicate with GSG colleagues.

2. Training. Students will be trained about GSG internal processes and will receive instruction about relevant politics and history of student government and related topics in education policy studies and international relations. Students will learn about the distinct needs of students and their student governments around the world, and about how to work with an international team from a variety of intersectional identities and backgrounds. Students will receive on-the-go training about good practices for partnership outreach, database management, and remote work.
