The primary focus for the student will be:
- Strategic Prospecting (Creators & Partners) - Identifying established content creators across Travel (bloggers, YouTube, walking tours), publishing, podcasting and street art that we can reach out to for collaboration; develop and implement strategies for approaching and on-boarding creators and identifying future prospects; creating a list of potential government/cultural partners and most relevant contacts; develop approach strategies and documents for potential future partnerships.
- Content Adaption & Production - creation of sample adaptions and editing/rewriting of the written/visual/audio content into a locative experience format for your identified established content creators; creation of proposals for those sample adaptions to present to strategic partners.
Additional tasks the student may be involved in:
- Partnership Approach - reaching out to potential content creators with an initial introduction to the company; short user interviews with creators to identify their needs & challenges to help refine future approaches to established creators; inclusion in partnership talks between the CEO and content creators.
- Production for Partnerships - If partnerships result from government/cultural partners list created by the student, the student may get the chance to be included in the production team that delivers that partnership, providing such things as editorial feedback and assistance to our producers as they work with our partners to produce interactive stories for their cities.
Our goal at the end of this experience is:
- Strategic Prospecting - For the student(s) to help us build a pipeline of potential customers/partnerships that will allow us to quickly gain momentum once our marketplace iteration of the product is launched.
- Content Adaption - For the student(s) to help us provide compelling proof of concept to content creators of the viability of this new format for their content, and get it loaded into the platform prior to launch of our marketplace iteration of the product.
- Partnership Approach - For the student(s) to help us contact a wide range of creatives, and identify their pain points for future marketing efforts.
- Production for Partnerships - For the student(s) to effectively shadow and learn how to communicate and run one of our productions.
We're looking for in a student who:
- Is passionate about all types of storytelling/publishing.
- Has an interest in either: gaming, travel, podcasts, geocaching, publishing, or the media & entertainment industries.
- Is a self-starter and highly motivated as the internships are virtual (and you’ll be working on a product that spans the world),
- Is open to experimentation (and the uncertainty and creative problem solving that comes with it),
- Can see the potential for publishing/story telling beyond the printed page/internet
- Is interested in adapting traditional forms of storytelling (whether they be novels, podcasts, or movies) into interactive formats,
- And is also interested in the business of production and producers in the creative industry as much as the creation.
We will plan to communicate with our virtual intern using these communication tools: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Asana, email.
Student's primary contact: Emily Craven, CEO
About the company
Story City, like Pokemon Go or Geocaching, but with stories, is the world’s first marketplace and GPS App for location-based stories, with each real-life choose your adventure, puzzle trail, or historical tale through city streets only accessible if you’re standing in the right location. Each story is created by local writers, artists, filmmakers, performers or tour guides who know their cities best. At Story City, we are of the firm belief that it is local stories and storytellers that are the change makers in our society. We want to redefine stories so they're something you're a part of, rather than something you're told, and to make cities places you interact with and explore, rather than just walk through. As a storyteller, whether you’re a writer, performer, musician or film-maker, you shouldn’t have to move away from the cities that you love, just to have a career.
