The course is designed to allow students to work in teams and demonstrate competences and skills in Information Technology (IT) Project Management. Students will have an opportunity to explore various approaches to planning and managing information for technology projects made available through Riipen.
Please note: EDGE UP courses give preference to companies located in Calgary.
The final project deliverables provided by EDGE UP students will include:
- A final report outlining the work they performed including their analysis, visualizations and recommendations.
- A final presentation to explain processes and key findings of the project may be required.

ICTC’s WIL Digital is an innovative Work Integrated Learning program that helps small and medium-sized employers grow their businesses by providing the wage subsidy for hiring EDGE UP 2.0 participants. The wage subsidy is at 75% of salary up to a maximum of $7500. The employer must provide a meaningful work integrated learning opportunity for EDGE UP 2.0 participants. The placement takes place between Jan- Mar 2022.

Project Examples
Students will work in groups of 4 and spend 100 hours per team to provide a solution for an IT project challenge that your company has identified. Throughout the process, students will gain industry specific knowledge, develop and apply innovative tools and techniques to plan and manage IT projects that are relevant in today’s workplace.
Instructors who are industry professionals will mentor and guide students through the stages of the project until deliverables are met.
EDGE UP (Energy to Digital Growth Education and Upskilling Project) is a short-term skills development program for mid-career Oil and Gas professionals who have been displaced from the Oil and Gas sector in Calgary. The project aims to help former employees of the Oil and Gas sector gain employment in Calgary’s high-demand, high-growth digital technology opportunities across all industries.
Learning Outcomes
- Exemplify knowledge and skills of IT Project Management tools and techniques.
- Evaluate and select project management frameworks, tools and techniques for the designated project scenarios as applicable.
- Utilize IT project management methodologies including agile approaches to complete the project
Project examples include but are not limited to:
- Compare different software vendors to meet a business need and provide recommendations.
- Create a proposed plan to introduce your team to agile methodologies.
- Create a project plan for the implementation of a new technology.
- Create a project plan to upgrade an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
- Develop a Risk Management plan to deal during pandemic times.
- Build a Request for Proposal process and templates.
- Create an agile framework for project delivery.
- Review the current IT Business Continuity Plan and provide recommendations.
- Design a standard project methodology for IT projects.
- Develop a risk mitigation plan in case of failure of Internet Service Provider (ISP).
- Assess the health of an IT in-flight project and suggest areas for improvement.
Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:
Provide a dedicated contact who is available to answer emails or phone calls over the duration of the project to address questions.
Commit to working with up to four teams of students
Be available for a conference phone call with the instructor to initiate relationship and confirm project scope
Provide pertinent data to the projects participants
