Data analytics has become an essential tool for deriving actionable insights in accounting and finance, providing novel state-of-the-art methodologies for auditing, budgeting, and the overall management of the financials of a company. Students will employ the latest data-driven techniques to address an accounting/finance challenge your company faces, specifically using statistical tools and predictive models to gather insights and propose recommendations.

  • A slide deck with conclusions and recommendations for a 10-minute consulting presentation.
  • A written report with details of the predictive models that were developed, including insights and overall recommendations that are inferred from such models.
  • All applicable source code.

Project Examples

Examples of projects include:

  • Identify patterns and anomalies in data for auditing purposes (e.g., to predict errors in financial statements or to enhance auditing effectiveness).
  • Find behavioural patterns in consumers and markets (e.g., to better understand client profiles and match them to more appropriate investment opportunities).
  • Forecast earnings and tax impacts.
