Students can complete a substantial project for your organization over the placement period. We suggest providing a starting project, but as the placement goes on there may be other duties or projects the student is asked to complete as well. Providing a central project creates structure for the internship, and gives the student (and company) a tangible goal.

Students need to engage in work that relates to their human relations training and expertise. Two specific areas of interest are:

• Group Program where interns are required to design/develop, implement, and evaluate a program that could focus on specific training, group development, community development/social innovation, strategic planning and facilitation.
• Research Project where the intern can develop and implement research activity or a research project that will require him/her to collect data, analyze it, and work with the client in order to support a change project that will benefit the organization.

Past project examples that students have completed include, but are not limited to:

• Data collection around a new vision and service delivery for an organization that collects and re-distributes food in an urban setting.
• Needs assessment and recommendations to an organization that promotes the distribution of health information to an immigrant population.
• Data gathering and creation of a series of introductory explanatory handbooks for new people coming into an organization to do their placements.
• Researching and developing an Anti-Bullying Program for a school.
• Research and documentation of an organization’s historical artefacts and oral history in order to begin a conversation about themselves and how they are evolving over the years.
• Reorganization the social and physical activities of a private CHSLD residence with a needs assessment for each resident.
• Creation and optimization of organizations onboarding processes.

The Capstone experiences are a non-remunerated learning experience for which the students will receive credits.
